Climate change has been on the agenda of many companies since Fridays4Future at the latest. An important building block for reducing corporate emissions is the complete recording of a company’s CO2 footprint. The Society for Applied Business Ethics (GfaW) and sustaineration are jointly presenting a tool with which companies can independently determine their CO2 footprint.
“When developing a carbon footprinting service, it was particularly important to GfaW and us that companies working with our tool acquire the skills to assess the carbon footprint of their business processes,” says Niels Christiansen, owner of sustainability consultancy sustaineration. Users of the tool are empowered to independently and confidently record their operational carbon footprint. The Excel tool is based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and calculates according to Scopes 1, 2 and 3, allowing companies to define the scope of their carbon footprint independently and identify which data needs to be collected and entered. Once all the data has been entered, the carbon footprint is displayed and visualized in various graphics that are suitable for both internal and external communication.
Effective climate strategy with the Excel tool
The climate assessment tool supports companies in developing effective climate strategies. In addition to the data mask for recording the relevant climate data, users receive graphical evaluations and templates for deriving targeted climate protection measures. Thanks to the transparent calculation method, companies can also make a well-founded assessment of where the potential for improving their climate impact lies. “We are delighted to have created a low-threshold climate assessment service with our long-standing partner sustaineration,” says Sophie von Lilienfeld-Toal, Managing Director of GfaW. GfaW is the standard setter of the Certified Sustainable Economics (CSE) label, a sustainability certification for companies. “Since this year, all CSE-certified companies have had to prove that they operate in a climate-neutral manner,” says von Lilienfeld-Toal. The carbon footprinting tool is an excellent basis for this. Further information on the tool and the associated costs can be found at https://sustaineration.com.
